On our last day of Women's History Month we want to highlight some of the women who have left an impact on our Sacred Heart familia. At our all girl high school our comets are able to look to these women for guidance and they are one of the biggest role models they have. Thank you for all you do ❤️ #WomensHistoryMonth #Comets

Highlight of the Day: Silvia Mendez was born on June 7th, 1936. She is of Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage. In the early 1940's Mendez was nine years old when she was experienced segregation. She was turned away from enrolling in an Orange County school in California that was for "whites only." This led her parents and other families to sue the school district and win the landmark case, Méndez v. Westminster, in 1946. This case paved the way for Brown v. Board of Education seven years later and became instrumental in ending segregation in U.S. schools. She continues to be a civil rights advocate today. In 2011, she was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. #CivilRights #WomensHistoryMonth
